There’s a multitude of different and deep subjects to make an analysis on, no matter who you may be or what background you come from. The possibilities are endless. For me personally, I would really want to focus on something that I really care about, not just something that I have a vague interest in. It should also be a subject with a look of information, not just to look at objectively, but also to interpret in your own way. From the very moment I heard about this assignment, I already an a solid idea of what I wanted to do it over, and ironically, it was a subject I talked about in my first journal entry; animation.
Animation, to me, is one of the most expressive art forms that I have seen in my life. Though that may not mean a lot considering that I’m only 23, I have seen a lot of different art from around the world. I love all forms of art, to different degrees, but one that has always been close to my heart has to be animation. Ever since I was a kid, animation has been my favorite form of entertainment. I’ve seen numerous shows that not only held my attention, but also taught me important life lessons. As I grew older, I found animations that tackled more mature subjects that I found interesting. Animation is often saw as a media for children or at least for younger demographic, and there for can only talk and show. However, I am a firm believer that animation being a media that can tell more complex and interesting stories, themes, and more. I think one question that I would want to ask that relates to this is ‘Are animations now geared more towards children, or adults?’. Though, in my percpective, I say that animation is primarily for kids, it would be interesting to look into this and compare not only how much animation contain has been made for each group of audience, as well as look at which group watches the most animation.
Regardless of which demographic animation is seen or geared towards, the impact of the medium is something I would also want to think and delve into that aspect. I guess another way to put this thought is, “What’s the evolution of animation, and what was its effect towards society as a whole?”. This question is a bit more broad and out there, but still something that I think is worth looking into and talking about, since theres a lot of milestones within animation. It would also bee interesting to look at how animation was influenced by the world and society as a whole. There are numerous example of works of animation being create in direct response to some sort of major event, the clearest and easiest one I can think of is 'Mickey goes to Vietnam', which is pretty self explanitory. However, their are hundreds of examples out there and I would love to look further into it.
